I am sure many of you have seen those insane commercials touting that High Fructose Corn Syrup is the same as sugar. Not that sugar is great, but high fructose corn syrup; they are mad and probably marketing geniuses, but still! Check out this article on how Fructose is no bueno. I am not talking Delicious whole fruit, but the processed over-hyped high fructose corn syrup variety.

Healthy Fake Tanner

The sun is finally out!!!! I love summer 🙂 Now the funny thing is watching everyone baring their super pale winter skin! I have used so many self-tanners over the past several years. I always wanted that post-sun glow all year round! But you have to wonder about all those chemical you are putting into your body through your skin, even with the “all natural” brands. Here is a cool recipe that seems pretty harmless! I have yet to try this out, so if you do before I do, let me know how it goes!
Your Best Tan Recipe
posted on Vital Juice EverywhereThis technique is so easy, you won’t be-leaf it.
Required time: About 30-40 minutes
Skill level: Goof-proof
Ingredients:
4 black tea bags
2 cups boiling water
Sponge or spray bottle
Optional:
Body lotion
Pure cocoa powder
Instructions:
- When water has boiled, add the tea bags to steep. Leave in for 10-15 minutes, or until tea is dark and cool enough to touch. In the meantime, take a shower to ensure your skin is oil- and sweat-free.
- Afterwards, make sure skin is completely dry. Stand on something you don’t mind getting dirty. If using a sponge, drench it in the tea and wipe all over your body. If using a spray bottle, fill it with tea and spray evenly.
- Let skin air-dry and apply another coat for a deeper shade.
Tea will stain clothes if wet, so make sure you’re all dry before dressing. The “tan” should last 3-4 days.
Optional: For bonus color, mix cocoa powder into body lotion until you reach desired color and apply for an all-over bronzing boost.

But if you are interested in going the Vegan direction check out this article by Mark Reinfeld (chef and vegan cookbook author) on How to Go Vegan (there is also a fun looking Vegan Shepherd’s Pie Recipe there too)
Healthy Baby Food at home

I do not have children yet, but I am still interested in all things baby! Primarily healthy babies and the food they should be eating. I know making your own baby food is not a new concept, but here is a way to really make it easier. I have already bought the Beaba Baby Cook for some of my new mommy friends and family. It is a wonderful simple little (baby-sized :)) gadget which simplifies the whole making baby food at home process. There are even cute accessories that make it even simpler to help portion and freeze the food once you have made it. My sister-in-law who has gorgeous almost 6 month old twin girls just sent me this fabulous site. There are recipes in here that go beyond the simple steaming and pureeing of a single vegetable or fruit. Fun recipes with great tips! It is so exciting since her girls are just entering the eating ages now!
There are so many great reasons to make your baby’s food whenever possible. The one that I find most compelling is that you can see and know everything you are giving your child. This is why I make most of the meals for my husband and I. Plus you are also putting that extra bit of love in too which will go directly to your children and/or husband!

I have always loved Mark Bittman, his cookbooks and his articles. But this below is a highlight! I love his take on eating vegan until dinnertime. “If you eat like a vegan until dinnertime, you can protect your health and help save the planet; how we eat — and certainly what we eat — has a real impact on both our bodies and the Earth.” from the NPR article This is something really anyone can do and it benefits everyone!

Mark Bittman has a straightforward way of sticking to Michael Pollan’s mantra from In Defense of Food(“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants”): He’s a “VB6 — Vegan Before 6,” he tells NPR. Bittman has lost 30 pounds by eating fruits, vegetables, and grains before splurging on “the food I love most — but with a little restraint” at dinner. He also congratulates himself for reducing greenhouse gases, however minimally, by moderating his consumption of the 10 billion animals the U.S. produces in a year. NPR follows Bittman’s dissertation with a recipe for cassoulet that calls for a pound of Italian sausage. Must be dinner.

Read this awesome blog entry from The GirlieGirl Army on Brendan Brazier. Super cool!
Brendan Brazier is a badass athlete who dispels the “vegans are scrawny” myth like nobodies bidness. He is a professional Ironman triathlete, two-time Canadian 50km ultra marathon champion, bestselling author on plant-based performance nutrition, formulator of Vega whole food nutritional products (available at a health food store near you), and just overall a truly sweet and compassionate guy.
