She’s been on Top Chef Masters and is the executive chef/owner of the Michelin-starred Annisa.  On February 3 at 7 p.m., Anita Lo is cooking a fabulous dinner at Counter, a vegetarian bistro in the East Village, with wine pairings from Bloomer Creek, a New York vineyard that produces award-winning wines in the Finger Lakes region. The four course menu ($65 per person, $30 for wine pairing, excluding tax and tip) features dishes like salad of edamame and peanuts with Korean chili, and six onions with green lentils and red wine reduction. The wines, such as dry riesling and pinot noir, will enhance the vegetarian menu.       Counter is located at 105 First Avenue (212-982-5870).

Wine and Vaca memories!

When my husband and I were first “just dating”, we went on a fabulous vacation out to Tahoe and Napa Valley! SO romantic and tons of fun. First was Tahoe, which is such a beautiful place with gorgeous views. Then we headed to Wine Country. We spent 4 beautiful days touring gorgeous vineyards and tasting lots of wine and yummy food. It was a very special trip 🙂

We had bought a couple bottles of small batch wine to take home and savour over the next few months. But since we don’t drink that often in our house, these stayed on the wine shelf for more than a few months. Time passed, we got engaged and married… we went on more vacations and brought back more special wine. haha But still some of the bottles, we were waiting for the right special occasion to come up.

This holiday season we were determined to drink them! We are super happy we did. The funny thing is, it wasn’t a special occasion, the way we had imagined it to be. It was a random night in December where I made dinner and we got to enjoy each others company. Thinking on it now, is there really a more special occasion than that? I love those relaxing nights and being able to focus on each other. So in the end, the wine made its way to a very special occasion after all!

For Vegans, Sweets of Their Own

By FLORENCE FABRICANT
Published: December 1, 2009

Vegans, who avoid all animal products, must read the fine print when it comes to chocolate because even the darkest bittersweet may contain milk solids. Pamela Blackwell, above, an owner of the vegan restaurants Blossom in Chelsea and Blossom Cafe on the Upper West Side, has given them a place, Cocoa V, to ease their concerns: two narrow brick-walled spaces, one a vegan dessert and wine bar and, next door, a shop.

Chester Higgins Jr./The New York Times

The chocolates created by Patrick Coston, her pastry chef, are made with organic cocoa, cocoa butter, soy lecithin and sugar or agave syrup. They are dark, smooth and intense. In the wine bar, which is outfitted with low tables, chocolates, brownies and savories like dairy-free “cheeses,” quiche and tea sandwiches are served with wines, coffee, tea and satisfyingly intense hot chocolate. The store also sells the sweets, including bonbons for $2.75 each, and pastries.
