“May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.”

1st night back in NYC – YUM

I was telling you about all the amazing food we had up at Omega…. the glorious salad bar and always yummy cooked vegan meals, amazing breads with earth balance or pb&j! Cooked Kale at every meal and the list goes on. Plus we can’t forget the AMAZING vegan brownies and peanut butter cookies at the Cafe. ahhhhh good life & good food!!

We didn’t want my first night back in NYC to disappoint and it was perfect, of course 🙂 So fun celebrating with my amazing husband!! It was gorgeous so we wanted outdoor seating (and there is not a lot of vegan choices with outside eating) so we headed over the Life Cafe 343 E 10th St @ Ave. B (212) 477-9001 (so appropriate since David Life, co-founder of Jivamutki Yoga was also the co-founder of Life Cafe!) After yesterday’s post I was soooo excited to have the PHILLY SEITAN STEAK (VEGAN) Thin slices of seitan, sauteed onions, garlic, mushroom, miso sauce & soy cheese (casein-free) served on a baguette YUM!!!!!! I also had the organic side salad and was pretty impressed, exactly what I needed.

(Prema, this is right by your house, you neeeeeed to eat this sandwich 🙂 )

After dinner we strolled over to Lula’s Sweet Apothecary 516 E 6th St (btwn Ave A & Ave B) (646) 912-4549 for their famous and deeeeelish Cake Batter VEGAN Soft Serve! OH MY YUM! I always love this, but every time we have it, it seems to taste even more amazing! haha We were so lucky that they now have their Soft Serve Monday hours, since they are normally closed on Mondays. Love it!!!!

Perfect End to the Perfect Evening 🙂

Terri deliciousness!

Terri 64 West 23rd Street NYC

We were SO excited to get to try out Terri, the new all vegan sandwich and juice shop! It was AMAZING!! Every bite was so enjoyable and moan-worthy hahaha

Michael and I shared the Meatball Parm sandwich, Bacon Cheddar Chicken Ranch sandwich and the Butterfinger Shake.  All Vegan and All Amazing!!  There are just a few bar stools and a counter to dine but of course you can take your lunch to go and head to Madison Square Park close by. The peeps behind the counter were super friendly and so nice! It was also so fabulous to have this $3 off any sandwich or wrap coupon! (expires 4/31) I know we will be back soon to try the rest of the menu!! Enjoy!

Terri 64 West 23rd Street NYC

I have been super excited about going to try out Terri, the new all vegan sandwich and juice shop which opened on February 15. ,Their menu looks amazing with offerings like Meatball Parm Sub, Grilled Cheese, Bacon Cheddar Chicken Ranch sub, a Buffalo Chicken sub, and a Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich — All Vegan!!  People have been raving about this place and we are hopefully going to get to grab lunch there today!

To make this place even more appealing this month, I also found this $3 off any sandwich or wrap coupon! With none of the sandwiches coming in over $8, that is a super deal. This coupon expires 4/31, so use it now 🙂 Let me know what you think of the place!

Natural Gourmet Institute Friday Night Dinner

YUM!!

Over the years I have taken several fabulous classes at Natural Gourmet Institute. They also offer a Friday Night Dinner at which the “Chef Instructors and students
of our Chef’s Training Program pour their expertise and enthusiasm into a three-course vegetarian dinner”. We wanted to check this out and this last Friday we got to go! It was great! They transformed the classrooms into communal tables with candles and flowers but the highlight of the evening was the meal! It was so deelish. Sorry, I did not take any pictures, but at least you will be able to drool over the menu 🙂 It is a great deal and was super fun. At the end of the meal the chefs come out to explain the meal and answer questions. It was great to meet them and to applaud the people who created such an amazing feast!

They change the menu every week so I know we will be going back soon enough. Our entire meal was vegan (yeah!) but even if there is a vegetarian part of the meal, there will always be a vegan alternative.

Check out the menu!

Roasted Butternut Squash Soup (this was so good! they had roasted the butternut before pureeing, so it gave it this great carmelized flavor)

Bitter Greens Salad with Pecans, Shallots,  Spicy, Smoky Dressing (of course I have had my fair share of salads, but this one was amazing! The smoky flavor was so different and deelish!)

Tempeh Scallopini with Portobello Risotto, Roasted Asparagus, Pepper Coulis (YUM!! The Risotto was made with a brown basmatti and was sooo creamy. The tempeh was insane and the asparagus were perfect!)

Maple Pecan Cookie, Vanilla Bean Sorbet, Caramel Crème, Strawberry Coulis (we loved the whole meal, but for me, dessert is typically the highlight and this one was amazing! the cookie was so sweet and mapley! ahhh! the vanilla bean sorbet was made out of young coconut and the caramel creme was divine!)

Can you tell that I enjoyed our meal?? I want to plan another night out there, who’s in??

9:30 am – 12 pm

“Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu”

May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.

Haiti’s situation is obviously very dark for all beings as they suffer the aftermath of the earthquake.  It is common during natural disasters for aid to be focused only on human beings as there is a great need for food, water, shelter and medicine.  However, many animal beings who are also in the same situation  tend to be forgotten during a disaster.
Jivamukti Yoga School is joining forces with P.E.T.A  (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and  ARCH (Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti) to relieve the suffering  of animals affected by the earthquake.   P.E.T.A, with the help of funds raised by the Jivamukti Yoga School  community,  will be working to aid as many animals as possible in the shortest amount of time. Check P.E.T.A.’s blog regarding  the Haitian situation by clicking here.dogs

Please join us for this program that will transform this devastating experience into a reason to cultivate compassion, generosity and love towards all beings.

You can never go wrong chanting the names of God.  Whatever names resonate for you. You can never go wrong chanting auspicious words like shantih-peace. Those sounds are like medicine. They can actually dismantle elemental forms or beings that we have created through negative thoughts, words and actions.” – Sharon Gannon

Program Schedule:
9:30am -10am   – Meditation, prayer and chanting for healing and restoration

10am -12pm      – Yoga Asana class

12pm                 – Vegan Brunch starts  at the JivamukTea Café

Program Donation:  $75

Over 20 In class privates will be raffled off  during the program.

Donations can also be made by going to the P.E.T.A.’s website

Souen Organic Macrobiotic Restaurant

Souen Organic Macrobiotic Restaurant 212-627-7150 28 East 13th St. (btwn University and Fifth Ave.) & 212-807-7421 210 6th Ave. @Prince St

Soeun never disappoints and has been a favorite restaurant of mine for many years. I am not alone in that either as the restaurant is normally full with happy and hungry diners and many times has a wait. I have eaten many of the vegetarian items on the menu and have always been wonderfully satisfied. The food is simple and healthy all while managing to be delicious. I am all about the healthy vegan food. You can get total macrobiotic simple foods, fun curry and noodle dishes. I think it is fabulous that although they adhere to macrobiotic cooking they serve fish dishes and even some fried foods. When picking a restaurant to dine, it always helps when there is some food like this for friends and family to keep an open mind. Everyone I have taken here has really enjoyed their meal. I love the vibe of this place. The food, the atmosphere and the faint smell of green juice 🙂 it may not be for everyone, but I am sold!

I always get the deelish Mu Tea which has licorice, ginseng, peony root and dozen other flower and plant essences in it. Divine! The home-made seitan is great! (pictured) I have heard from other friends that their sushi is super fresh and sooo good! Plus I have seen several meat eaters enjoy the fish entrees with zeal, so it must be tasty! I typically order one of their abundant salads or get the Macro Plate (pictured). But I have tried so many of the appetizers and some noodle dishes and loved them too. There is always a big board with specials and desserts (YUM!) to choose from too.

A few months back (sorry it took me so long!) I came here with 2 of my fabulous ladies, Yi-Ching and Rae. Yi-Ching, the amazing photographer took pictures of our meal so we could show to you. Thanks ladies! We need to do this again soon 🙂

In March 2009 they opened a Ramen shop. I have wanted to take part in the Ramen craze that is everywhere around me in NYC but have not been able to since everything is also surrounded by pork there! haha! I am beyond excited to get over to the noodle shop to partake finally!  Souen Organic Ramen (212) 388-1155  326 East Sixth Street
